Belle
Meade Community
Information
If you're looking for an upscale neighborhood to live in, Belle Meade is the
place to go. It is every bit a part of Nashville's Music City, with a socialite
feel. Belle Meade has its own tiny police force, that takes extremely good
care of its residents, and city hall. Those with old money can be found in
Belle Meade. Society breeds here. Brass equine statues are frozen in frolicking
poses at the entrance to the proverbial wide, tree-lined boulevard which is
bordered by pillared mansions.
You do not have to be a millionaire to live in Belle Meade. There are plenty
of opportunities here for those looking to put a little work into an upscale
home. Farther east along West End Avenue, gracefully crumbling condos coexist
alongside bungalows in various states of repair, and the eagle-eyed renter
or buyer can find more than a few bargains.
There is plenty to do in Belle Meade. The highest quality is necessity, so
be prepared to be wowed by the activities offered. Revolving art exhibits at
Cheekwood mansion and gardens, where tours are available for a few dollars,
served as the only museum for art-hungry Nashvillians before the downtown Frist
Center for the Visual Arts was built.
Joggers and couch potatoes
alike enjoy the lush, green fields and forested hills of the Warner Parks.
Boutiques from the funky to the upscale are good
for window-shopping and spending sprees alike, and hobbyists have roamed the
aisles at Phillips Toy Mart for decades. Fine dining abounds – yes, you
should probably phone ahead. If you're feeling downtown, you won't find a McDonald's
along the main drag, but there is a Krystal's.
For those who want a walk in the past there are several historical homes to
visit. For a nominal fee, you can head to an Antebellum Mansion, Belle Meade,
which dates back to 1853. On site, you can visit the mansion, a 1790's Dunham
Station Log Cabin, 1890's Carriage House and stables, view an Antique Carriage
Collection, and Seven other Historic Outbuildings. Don't forget to grab a bite
to eat in Belle Meade Mansion's Restaurant. Their critically acclaimed chef
is sure to please. Remember your visit to Belle Meade Mansion by checking out
their Museum Shop. Local artists are on display every month.
Belle Meade has a rich, vibrant history. In the latter half of the 19th century
Belle Meade was one of the most important nurseries for thoroughbred racing
horses. Nearly every Kentucky Derby winner, since then, can trace their linage
back to Belle Meade. Many of the homes can be traced back from generation to
generation. The Belle Meade Mansion was an important stronghold during the
Civil War.
If you are looking for a classy neighborhood, that has potential for growth,
with an extensive history, in a great area, then Belle Meade is the city for
you.
