Lewisburg is famous throughout Tennessee because it is the home of not one,
but three former governors of the state. Lewisburg is home to the Marshall
County Historical Museum. Admission is free, and hours vary. You can even
make appointments for private tours of this experience through history.
Lewisburg is ideally situated close to I-65 which goes straight to the heart
of Nashville. This has allowed for great strides in industrial development
in Lewisburg. Several national companies call Lewisburg home including Abeco
Diecasting, Cosmolab, Walker Diecasting, Dole Refridgeration, Hyperion Seating
Company, International Comfort Products, Mead Containers, Tennessee Pencils,
and National Bridle Shop Inc. It is also the world headquarters for the Tennessee
Walking Horse Breeders and Exhibitors Association.
The ability of the Middle Tennessee area to supply ample labor for industry
is enhanced by an excellent rural road system and a moderate climate. These
two factors allow the employer to draw labor from a wider geographic area.
The labor force in this area is characterized by an eagerness to learn a
willingness to work, and a high level of productivity. The productivity levels
are quite impressive but not as impressive as those who work to make the
numbers what they are.
The Lewisburg Recreation Center is the center for all of the local community
activities. The Recreation center is a city park that has facilities available
for nearly every physical activity you can imagine. Take a walk on the paved
walking and exercise track. This track takes you through the beautifully
landscaped park, and is one of the most popular activities for both young
and old alike. The Rec Center boasts an Olympic size pool, a brand new sports
complex with a full time activity coordinator, tennis courts, racquetball
courts, a meeting hall, a newly built Exploration Station, where kids can
explore the outdoors and a host of many other things, and a nine course golf
course that is the home to some of the areas biggest charitable golf tournaments.
Other places of activity in Lewisburg are The Dixie Theatre, Henry Horton
State Park, and the Saddle Creek Golf Club. The Dixie Theatre has been in
Lewisburg since 1913. It was a movie theater until 1985 and in 1994 the theatre
was bought by the Marshall County Community Theatre. It was renovated with
a stage and close to 300 seats. Plays can be seen at the Dixie today. Saddle
Creek Golf Club attracts golfers from near and far. The expensive club was
built in the mid-90's.
The Henry Horton State Park is also located in Lewisburg. Set in the rolling
hills of Middle Tennessee, 1,140-acre Henry Horton Park is located on the
former estate of the late Henry H. Horton, 36th governor of Tennessee. This
park, located on the shores of the historic Duck River, is best known for
its resort inn, scenic golf course, and skeet and trap range. The park provides
hours of recreational enjoyment for those in Middle Tennessee.
